As a controversy broke out over allegations that he was deliberately given wrong treatment in Pune, Anna Hazare today said he did not think that he was given medicines with "malafide intentions" by the doctors at Sancheti hospital.

His remarks came as yoga guru Ramdev levelled allegations that Hazare's condition was not improving because of the wrong medicines administered to him.

Team Anna sources on Sunday had also alleged that he was administered overdose of anti-biotics and steroids during his treatment.

Hazare flew down to Delhi from Pune on the same day and straightaway left for Medanta Medicity where he underwent a series of medical tests.

The 74-year-old activist was treated for acute bronchitis at a hospital in Mumbai earlier this month after he called off his hunger strike for a strong Lok Pal Bill midway. He was discharged on January eight.

Defending Dr Kanti Lal Sancheti, who treated him after his fast in December, Hazare said he knew the physician for the past 25 years and he did not subscribe to the allegations.

"It is being said that I was given overdose of medicines and some (medicines) were not needed. I don't think that I was given medicines with malafide intentions. May be, my body cannot accept these medicines," he said in a statement.

Noting that Dr Sancheti was a Padma Vibhushan awardee, he said it was wrong to link it with his health. "He was awarded for his services for the 40 years. I congratulate him," Hazare said.

Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal also refuted adverse reports regarding Dr Sancheti.
