HC's clean chit to discoms on electronic meters

The Delhi High Court today gave a clean chit to power distribution companies installing electronic meters in the National Capital Region and said past consumption could not be a criterion in deciding whether meters were in good condition.

The court also issued directions to BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd to notify all consumers on whose premises electronic meters had been installed to check wiring and ensure that no two connections had a common neutral.

The court also asked the company to check inter-mixing of neutral wires and gave one week's notice for replacing meters for removing any deficiency.

While disposing of the writ petition filed by one Suresh Jindal, seeking a re-installation of electro-mechanical meters, Justice Pradeep Nandrajog said, "The petitioner has not been able to show that the electronic meter replaced was not as per ISI specifications. The meter was tested twice and was found to be in order. Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), an independent agency, also checked the meter and found it to be correct."
