The Karnataka High Court today reserved its orders on petitions filed by 11 rebel BJP legislators challenging their disqualification from the Assembly by Speaker K G Bopaiah.
Judge V G Sabhahit heard the arguments from the counsels of the petitioners – Ravi Varma Kumar, K G Raghavan and B V Acharya – and Chief Minister Yeddyurappa – Soli Sorabjee and Satyapal Jain – during the two-day hearing which concluded today.
Justice Sabhahith was hearing the petitions after a division bench delivered a split verdict with Chief Justice J S Khehar upholding the Speaker's order and Justice N Kumar setting it aside.
The 11 MLAs and five independents were disqualified by the Speaker on October 10, a day before the trust vote sought by Yeddyurappa, heading the BJP's first ever government in the south.
