The Delhi High Court will begin hearing today on applications by former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao and several others seeking quashing of charges framed against them in the multi-crore MPs bribery case.
On the pleas of several accused, the high court had issued notices to CBI which had chargesheeted 21 persons including Rao, and scheduled hearing of the case for August 8. The high court had also stayed trial court proceedings in this case till further orders.
On the basis of evidence produced by the investigating agency, trial court, presided by special judge Ajit Bharihoke, had framed charges against 20 persons while granting pardon to one of the accused as he turned an approver.
Those who are facing trial in the case include former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, former Karnataka Chief Minister Veerappa Moily, former Union ministers Buta Singh, Ajit Singh and Satish Sharma, two former cabinet colleagues of Moily, Congress MP V Rajeswar Rao and JMM leaders Suraj Mandal, Simon Marandi and Shibu Soren.
