Heavy rains lash Mumbai

Heavy rains lashed the city today leading to waterlogging in many low lying areas, disrupting traffic causing inconvenience to commuters.        

"Water logging was reported in central Mumbai's Byculla, Parel, Mahalaxmi, and Mahim, Goregaon, Milan Subway in the western suburbs," a Muncipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) official said.        

Bhandup, Kurla and Mulund in easten suburbs too witnessed heavy water logging, the official said.        

Traffic movement too has slowed down, he said.        

"There are possibilities of accidents if vehicles moved fast on the wet roads," he said.        

A mini tanker carring curd overturned on the western express highway near Vile Parle in the wee hours of morning, but none was injured, he said.        

 

MCGM has geared up to ensure that water drains away fast in case the rainfall continues till the high tide in the afternoon, the official said.
