High alert after 'fidayeen' enter metros

Bhaba Atomic Research Centre, Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai and American Consulate in Kolkata are high on the radar of Taliban-trained terrorists who have sneaked into the cities to attack vital installations.

A top government official said Taliban-trained 'fidayeen' (suicide squad) have entered the country to carry out attacks at specific installations like RSS headquarters in Nagpur, Kolkata Port and some defence establishments.

According to intelligence input, the World Cup Hockey, scheduled to be held in Delhi in February, and some civilian targets in Gujarat could also be targeted by these terrorists who have entered the country with the help of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

 

The Home Ministry has already alerted governments of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and the Delhi Police to take necessary measures to beef up security in the potential targets and intensify patrolling, specially in airports, railway stations, bus terminus and hotels, the official said.

Intelligence input also suggested that the terrorists are "Pashtoon-looking".

The official said a few days before the terrorists' entry, some "facilitator" had visited Mumbai to do a recce and to provide information which are the possible hotels and guest houses where the terrorists could stay.
