The UK-based Hinduja group has evinced interest in automobiles, petrochemicals, gas pipeline and a sports academy in West Bengal, chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee said yesterday.

"They have shown interest in investments in three-four sectors in the state," Bhattacharjee said on the sidelines of the impounding ceremony of the 900 MW Purulia pumped storage project.

The sectors are "automobiles, petrochemicals, a sports city and a gas pipeline project," he added.

While the automobiles venture would start with an assembling unit before graduating into full-scale manufacturing, the petrochemicals project, apparently inspired by the mega project of Haldia Petrochemicals, may come up at the new industrial hub in East Midnapore district.
