Hiring activities in the country picked up last month on the back of increased demand for professionals across various sectors, including IT, according to job portal Monster.Com.
The Monster Employment Index -- an indicator of online job demand -- rose to 124 in April from 118 in March.
Monster.Com Managing Director (India/Middle East/South East Asia) Sanjay Modi said there is an "elevated demand for IT and management professionals aligning with signals of mounting business confidence across the economy and continued focus on India's role as a global technology centre".
The index has been improving since October, 2010, indicating better recruitment activities.
Good hiring trends were witnessed in oil/gas/petroleum, power and IT, among others, in April.
The Finance & Accounts and Marketing & Communications segments registered the steepest annual declines of 6% each in the index, reflecting relatively restrained recruitment conditions for the respective professionals in early-spring 2011.
Coimbatore, Baroda and Jaipur were among the cities that saw bullish recruitment activity in April.
