Hiring up 4% in Oct'13 over Sep'13: Naukri Job Speak Index

Hiring activity saw a 4% rise in October 2013 over September 2013, said the monthly Naukri Job Speak Index by job portal Naukri.com. Bangalore witnessed the maximum improvement in hiring trends with 7% increase in October 2013 over September 2013 followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai with a slight increase in hiring of 6% and 4% month-on-month respectively.

The Naukri Job Speak Index for the month of October 2013 was at 1,286 showing a 4% growth in hiring, when compared to September 2013. The hiring activity witnessed an 11% increase when compared to the same period of last year. Most of the sectors showed an upward trend in hiring in October 2013. Oil and Gas saw a massive growth followed by the Insurance sector.
 

However, hiring activity has declined in the Media & Entertainment sector with the index showing a dip of 7 % as compared to September 2013. This downward spiral in Media and Entertainment sector is also visible in a year on year analysis with the index showing a dip of 6% in October 2013 as compared to October 12. 

Ambarish Raghuvanshi, Group President Finance and CFO Info Edge (India) Ltd said, "The current economic situation has started showing signs of recovery and this sentiment is getting echoed in the hiring pattern of the companies. Our index has gone up thereby presaging better time ahead.  We are cautious and hope that hiring will continue to improve by end of this year."

The Naukri Job Speak index from February 2010 includes both online jobs as well as jobs acquired from existing clients by our tele-calling team. On the basis of job listings added to the site every month, the data shows an increase or decrease in the index. To calculate the index, job listings added to the site in July 2008 have been taken as 1000. The subsequent months have been indexed with data of July 2008. The monthly report shows hiring trends across industry sectors, geography and functional areas.
