The High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) chaired by the state chief minister Naveen Patnaik today cleared seven new projects worth Rs 67,445 crore.
Of the seven projects which got the nod of HLCA, five are in the power sector with a cumulative capacity of 10,500 MW and involving a total investment of Rs 48,525 crore.
Addressing media persons here after the 12th HLCA meeting, Pradeep K Jena, the state energy secretary, said, “Orissa would get 4,600 MW of power from the 10,500 MW capacity to be added by the five new power projects.”
The other two projects which got the HLCA nod include a Rs 3100-crore integrated steel project to be set up by Tata Sponge Iron Limited as well as a mega auto park cum steel and power complex to be set up by Amtek Metal & Mining Ltd (AMML)at a cost of Rs 15,820 crore.
“The HLCA also approved the change of location of two power projects- Sahara India and JSL (formerly Jindal Stainless Ltd). Besides, the capacity enhancement plans of other two power projects- Chambal Infrastructure and Ventures Limited and GMR Kamalang Energy Limited also got the green signal of HLCA”, said the state industries secretary Sourabh Garg.
The site of Sahara India’s Rs 5604 crore, 1000 MW power plant has been changed from Turla in Balangir district to Ghantabahal in the same district.
Similarly, the location of JSL's 1320 MW power project has been changed from Gajamara in Dhenkanal district to Luni in the same district.
In terms of capacity enhancement, the HLCA has approved the scaling up of capacity of Chambal Infrastructure and Ventures from 1200 MW to 1320 MW (2x660) and that of GMR Kamalanga Energy from 1050 MW to 1400 MW.
The five new power projects which got the HLCA nod are those of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Orissa Thermal Power Corporation Limited (OTPCL), BGR Energy Systems, J R Powergen Private Ltd and Adhunik Power & Natural Resources Ltd.
NTPC has proposed to set up a 3200 MW coal-based power plant at Darlipali in Sundergarh district at an investment of Rs 18,000 crore. This power plant will come up on 3000 acres of land and generate direct employment for 2000 people.
Similarly, OTPCL, promoted by Orissa Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC), is setting up a power plant at Rengali in Angul district at a cost of Rs 8,250 crore. The project needing 2100 acres of land will provide direct employment to 1000 people.
BGR Energy Systems Limited is setting up a 1320 MW (2x660) super critical power project at Bhapur in Nayagarh district on 1100 acres of land. This Rs 6287.93-crore project will offer direct employment for 400 people.
J R Powergen Private Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of the Hyderabad-based KSK Group, which is setting up a 1800 (3x600) MW power plant at an investment of Rs 7988.90 crore will offer direct employment for 1300 people.
HLCA has suggested that the company should go for a power project based on super critical technologies and set up a 1980 MW (3x660) plant.
