Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh stressed for taking up extensive infrastructure development works in the Naxal-infested pockets asserting that it (development) was a major arm to resolve the left wing extremism (LWE).

"The Naxalites are exercising to block the development works in the interior areas and the authorities shall moot plan to expedite the project implementations (in the red zone)," Singh said. The Union Minister was on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh that concluded Sunday evening. During the high-level meeting of the unified command set up to combat LWE, the issue of development works had been reportedly discussed in length. Singh said the development works would be given top priority in the Naxal-infested areas. The meeting also discussed ensuring security cover for the agencies expediting the projects.

The implementation of the projects including roads, bridges and other works had been a daunting task for the agencies. The home ministry stressing for executing the works could be a major development. "If development in the interior areas takes place, it will eradicate the Naxal problem," Singh said.

The union home minister however did not reveal the strategy designed to deal with the Naxals in the meeting held in Chhattisgarh capital. He said result would be seen in future. Singh on Sunday visited the worst Naxal-infested district of Sukma and spent more than six hours in the Naxal heartland.

During his visit that was aimed to boost the morale of the security personnel deployed in the Naxal front, Singh had his lunch with the jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Chintagufa camp. He later visited Dornapal to inaugurate the newly built police station premises.

Both the centres had been the stronghold of the Naxalites and they claimed it to be their "liberated zone". The visit of home minister was earlier scheduled in Bhejji but was changed at the last minutes and the chopper carrying Singh landed in the Chintagufa camp.

"The Naxal issue is a big challenge," Singh said. With the joint efforts, it would be resolved, he added. Singh said there was a proper coordination between different security forces deployed in the front.
