Changes in labour legislation could be effected only after a consensus was reached with the social partners involved, minister of state for labour Muni Lall said at a CII workshop on labour law reforms here yesterday.
Lall said it was for want of a consensus between employees and employers that labour laws could not be amended.Lall said policies should address the requirements of production and high rate of GDP on one hand and requirements of justice, equality and fair play on the other. Labour secretary L D Mishra said the government was conscious of the need for changes in labour laws to make them relevant to the emerging new forces and challenges in the labour market.
