Travelling by Rajdhani and Shatabdi is set to get cozier with the Railways planning to introduce ‘on board house-keeping services’ in these trains.

Under the proposed system, on board cleaning of toilets, doorways, gangways and vestibules would be done at frequent intervals as also when demanded by the passengers.

“Major activities of the house-keeping service would include keeping the toilet dry and clean, vestibules, garbage disposal from dustbins, spraying of air fresheners, refilling of liquid soap,” sources in the railway ministry said.

Passenger feedback about the house-keeping would also form a critical component of the service, they said.

The service will also be introduced in Duronto trains which was introduced recently. The move to introduce the service comes against the backdrop of Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee asking all zones to spruce up passenger amenities at stations and in trains. IRCTC, a railway PSU, has already set up a passenger grievances mechanism which helps passengers register their complaint about the catering services onboard trains.
