How the new states fared in first 15 years

A snapshot of the performance of Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh, vis-a-vis India as a whole and their parent states - Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, respectively - in the first 15 years of their existence:

Around the turn of the century, three new Indian states were born after division of three bigger ones — Jharkhand from Bihar, Chhattisgarh from Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh.
