The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) on Thursday announced that it would contribute Rs 2.5 crore to eight non government organisations (NGOs) that are engaged in rehabilitating people impacted by the tsunami that hit India last December. |
At a press conference, Niall S K Booker, HSBC's group general manager and chief executive officer, India, said that money was directed towards movements that were engaged primarily in rebuilding and protection. |
The eight NGOs that are to receive funds from HSBC's Tsunami Rebuild Programme are Isha Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Round Table India, Rotary Club of Madras, Reefwatch for Andaman and Nicobar Islands Plan India, SOS Children's Villages and World Vision. |
Booker said that most of the contributions to the fund came from the bank's employees and customers. In addition to the fund, HSBC has donated Rs 20 lakh to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. |
