Hubli railway division earnings rise 22 per cent

The Hubli division of South Western Railway zone has registered an increase of 22.88 per cent in its revenues, till February compared with the revenues during the corresponding period last year. The revenues this fiscal till February-end was Rs 3,328.98 crore.

This was disclosed by divisional railway manager Hubli division (SWR) Adesh Sharma at the recently held 14th Divisional level Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting at Hubli.

The number of passengers carried by the division till February-end of the present

financial year was 2.78 crore, an increase of 19.83 per cent over the corresponding period of the last year. Sharma said, the Railways had added 451 additional coaches of different classes to clear the extra rush from April 2008 to February 2009.

 

The circulating area in Dharwad Railway station has been expanded and at Londa station platform number 3 has been widened and extended to 22 coach length. DRUCC member Damodardas Rathi from Bagalkot urged the authorities to change the timings of Yeshwantpur-Bijapur newly extended train.

It could start at 9 PM from Yeshwantpur and reach Bijapur at 10 AM the next day, he said. Praveen Kamalani from Dharwad stressed the need to extend the Bangalore-Hubli Intercity Express up to Dharwad.
