Hubli rly division's passenger traffic up 6.3% in 4 months

The Hubli division of the South Western Railway (SWR) zone has registered a growth of 6.35 per cent in the passenger traffic at13.31 million during the period April to July 2010, compared to the corresponding period of last year.

According to Praveen Kumar Mishra, divisional railway manager, Hubli, the division has recorded an increase of 8.56 per cent over the target in terms of passenger traffic.

The passenger earnings up to July 2010 were Rs 62.24 crore, registering an increase of 6.25 per cent over the corresponding period of previous year.

The originating freight loading up to the end of July 2010 has been 10.314 million tonnes, which is 0.7 per cent more than the corresponding period of last year. Despite the volatility in demand of iron ore in the international market and no iron ore loading at Bellary Iron Ore Pvt Ltd and Obulapuram Mining Corporation due to legal issues, the freight earnings achieved up to July, has been Rs 1,017.97 crore as against Rs 797.8 crore in the corresponding period of last year, he said in a statement.

 

The gross earnings achieved up to July 2010 has been Rs 1,089.06 crore, registering an increase of 26 per cent over the corresponding period of last year figure of Rs 864.49 crore.

Mishra further stated that the Hubli division’s performance efficiency index up to the end of July 2010 declined to 21.01 per cent as compared to 22.29 per cent during the corresponding period of last year.
