I&B to ban more TV channels

After banning English entertainment channel AXN for showing indecent content, the government is likely to pull-up some more channels.

Speaking to reporters at the Social Editiors conference, Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, Minister of Information and Broadcasting said that several channels were indulging in showing content that was unsuitable for prime time viewing. This will not be tolerated, the minister said.

"I do not want to name these channels but there are some of them who are testing our patience. I will speak to them but if they do not relent appropriate action will be taken," Dasmunsi said.

Last month the government had banned the telecast of AXN channel till March 15 for showing a programme called 'World's Sexiest Commercials' as it violated the programme code for cable television.

Dasmunsi said if at all channels have to show programmes which are best suited for adults, they should show it between 11 pm and 5 am.
