I-T raids on real estate developers, hoteliers

Income Tax officials on Friday conducted raids on several real estate developers, hoteliers, politicians among others and unearthed several cases of Income Tax evasion by them. They also seized many documents pertaining to illegal property documents and unaccounted cash among others.

According to sources, the I-T department officials conducted simultaneous raids this morning at several places including residences of a

local Congress leader, Chakrapani, and hotels of Prakash Shetty, owner of Gold Finch hotel and Banjara Group, Anand, owner of Nandini Deluxe Group, Kamal Pasha, owner of Golden Hatcheries, among other businessmen in the city. Income Tax officials were unavailable for comment.

 

The raids were conducted on the residence of Chakrapani at Kodigehalli on Bellary Road. Chakrapani is one of the prominent real estate developers in the city. The investigation was still on.

The officials raided the residence of Anand Reddy in Indira Nagar and offices and seized documents. The raids, which began at 7 am, went on till late afternoon, the sources said.

Sources said the officials seized illegal property documents, bank pass books, vouchers, unaccounted jewellery and cash from their residences and hotels.

They also seized some documents related to income tax evasion by them. Apart from these persons, the I-T department officials also raided residences of many other industrialists and businessmen. The details of these raids, were however, not made public by the department.
