Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj whose name is doing rounds as Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the next Lok Sabha said on Sunday it is "painful" to even imagine replacing Advani.
"It is a painful thought to replace Advani while he is around. There is no such proposal and I have not given consent for any such idea," Swaraj, who won the Vidisha seat in Madhya Pradesh told reporters.
After the debacle of BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, Advani has expressed his desire to step down from the post of the Leader of Opposition in the meeting of the parliamentary board meeting of the party.
The leaders including party president Rajnath Singh had persuaded him to continue on the post but he remained adamant. Advani's decision stirred up speculation with names of senior party leaders like Sushma Swaraj, Jaswant Singh and Murli Manohar Joshi doing the rounds for the post, party sources said.
