Flying more than 15 mercy missions, IAF has so far carried over 277 tonne of medicines, tents, water, wheelchairs, portable houses and other relief material to Myanmar and Sichuan province of China.
The Indian mercy missions are continuing with more flights of giant IL-76 transport aircrafts slated this week to both Yangon and Chengdu.
IAF started the airlift to south-east coast of Myanmmar on May 3 by smaller AN-32 aircraft and naval warships. But, within a day sensing that the disaster magnitude was much more claiming over 50,000 lives, the IAF virtually built an air-bridge to Yangon ferrying military doctors, para-medics and medicine and supplies.
The teams of doctors flown in are working round the clock in the worst affected areas, south and south west of Yangon, where they happen to be lone medical personnel fighting disease, deaths and disaster.
So far, IAF has airlifted 125 tonne of relief material including medicines and tents.
