The Innovations series "" started by IIT Bombay Alumni Association "" gives an opportunity to innovators to commercialise their products with the help of venture capital firms. The initiative launched last year is aimed at promoting innovative thinking and help innovators commercialise their projects. The organisers this year selected 16 innovative projects. "A large number of people come up with innovative ideas but very few can develop commercial products out of their concepts. The IIT Bombay alumni thought of helping such creators through the concept of "Innovations". Last year, when we launched this event, the response was excellent. This year, the event has grown much bigger," says Ajay Phatak, president, Pune chapter, IIT Bombay Alumni Association. According to Phatak, a number of projects presented at the last year's events have been commercialised. "A participant has developed a cream, which works as a permanent hair remover. The cream, named "Hairminator", kills the protein responsible for growth of hair on the skin," Ahmedabad-based Sham Antoorkar had developed a simulated parachute and glider that makes old people and children enjoy the experience of paragliding. The project named "Skyderman" gives an alternative to paragliding and parascaling, which is safe and cost-effective. "A large section of people cannot afford activities like paragliding while some cannot do it because of their age. Skyderman is an equipment that gives a feel of such adventure sports activities but can even be fixed at a children's park," Antoorkar states. Another project by Mobein Technologies enables an individual in supply-chain marketing sector to upload data or send requests through his or her cellphone, irrespective of the ERP tool or the cellphone handset being used. |
