IITians to participate in global conference in October

Over 3000 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) alumni from across the world will gather near here to participate in a global conference on technology and innovation that would be attended by President Barack Obama's Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra.     

The fifth Global PanIIT conference, hosted by the IIT Midwest team, will be held in suburban Schaumburg on October 9-11 and will focus on the theme of 'Entrepreneurship and Innovation in a Global Economy'.     

Chopra, US' first Chief Technology Officer and Associate Director for Technology in the Office of Science and Technology Policy, will discuss his plans to help build a next-generation digital infrastructure and drive innovation.     

 

Leaders from industry, academics and government sector will participate in the conference to address challenges and opportunities in key areas such as alternative energy, healthcare, digital infrastructure and climate change, organising committee chairman Ray Mehra said in a statement.     

Caterpillar Inc Chairman and CEO James Owens, India's National Knowledge Commission Chairman Sam Pitroda, Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar, Eric J Gleacher, Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago, and Former Chief Economist of the IMF Raghuram Rajan would also attend the conference.     

Started in 2002, PanIIT is an umbrella organisation of the alumni of all the seven IITs.
