India Economic Summit from Nov 27

The India Economic Summit which would deliberate on ways to enhance India's competitiveness and present the country's perspective to the business world, would begin from November 27-29. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would address the closing session.

"The 21st India Economic Summit hosted jointly by World Economic Forum and CII is the forum where we can engage thoughts from across the globe and provide opportunities for Indian businesses to network," Y C Deveshwar, president of CII, said.

"'Young and resurgent India: its impact on regional and global strategies' is the theme for this year's summit which would bring together more than 200 international companies and over 600 participants from 33 countries," Colette Mathur, director for India of World Economic Forum, said.

About 30 sessions would focus on critical issues such as infrastructure, civil aviation, states' capabilities to attract investments, financial service energy and environment.

"The session on agri business and agriculture would be a major one as the agriculture minister has put in a special request", Mathur said.

This session would look at ways to increase the income and livelihood in the agriculture sector. For the first time, a session on special economic zones also would be held, she added.
