India may cross Rs 11.5 trn direct tax collection target: CBDT chief

Total tax refund so far in the current financial year stands at about Rs 950 billion

CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra Monday expressed confidence in exceeding Rs 11.5 trillion direct tax collection target in current fiscal.

In 2018-19 budget, the government had projected a 14.3 per cent rise in direct tax collections to Rs 11.5 trillion.

“We certainly hope to cross the Rs 11.5 trillion direct tax collection target for the current fiscal,” Chandra said.

However, Controller General of Accounts data shows, the direct tax collections grew a paltry 4.2 per cent on year to Rs 1.54 trillion in April-June.
