India seeks better deal for its farmers

 India warned that such an attitude could adversely affect the livelihood of millions of farmers, besides jeopardising the future of sustainable agriculture on the planet.

 This note of caution was voiced by Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh at the 32nd session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Rome today. The text of his speech was simultaneously released here.

 Singh asserted that if the current round of negotiations was aimed at establishing a fair global agricultural trading regime, it must keep in view the inter-linkages in the three pillars of the Agreement on Agriculture (AoA)
