In order to improve food safety in India, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is forming scientific panels to examine the list of various food items and identify the problems.
The panels will be constituted in next few months and the work will start in January 2009, said Dr. PI Suvrathan, chairperson, FSSAI at a conference in New Delhi. He also informed that an inter-ministerial group is being set up to do a risk analysis and find out in which areas food safety can be a issue.
