India will provide Rs 50 million financial assistance to Nepal for the construction of a new hospital building.

The structure, to be built under the Nepal-India Economic Programme, will come up inside the premises of Dhulikhel Hospital in Kavre district, 75 km east of Kathmandu.

A memorandum of understanding in this regard was signed today between the Indian Embassy, Dhulikhel Municipality and Dhulikhel Hospital, a statement issued by the embassy said.

The structure would provide improved healthcare facilities to over 2.5 million people of the region, the statement added.

Dhulikhel Hospital is an independent, non-governmental institution providing healthcare services to the people of remote areas near the Nepal-Tibet border.

The hospital faces space shortage and confronts serious constraints on its capacity to provide quality services. The new hospital will help address these shortcomings.
