A senior Indian-American community leader from Texas, who played a major role in the passage of the Henry Hyde Act of 2006, has held out the hope that the US civilian nuclear agreement will get through this session of Congress despite financial crisis in the country.
"We were very hopeful that 123 agreement will be approved by the US congress by the time the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrives in Washington. But leadership in the Congress had to focus all its attention to resolve the unprecedented financial crises and were busy even on the weekend," Chairman of Dallas based USINDIA forum, Ashok Moga, said in a Statement.
"Now it seems very unlikely that Congress will be able to address all the issues by September 26th... For the supporters of the agreement, goal has been and still is to see it through before Congress adjourns for elections on Nov 4th," he said.
"We are still keeping our hopes up for our earlier goal. In Washington everything is possible," Mago added.
