The state tourism department is likely to build an indoor entertainment plaza in public-private-partnership at Lower Tank Bund in the city.

The 2.88 acre plaza would be on the lines of indoor entertainment plazas at Macau, Australia and other countries, Jayesh Ranjan, state principal secretary, tourism department, said.

This initiative is part of the government tourism policy, which was launched in September last year. Under this, the state provides incentives to investors for unique tourism project ideas. AP is the only state which offers land assembly and single window clearance for the promotion of tourism, he said.

The state has a land bank of 3,000 acres for tourism promotion. “Of this, we have identified five destination, including Lower Tank Bund and Durgam Cheruvu in Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam to develop projects with an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore- 350 crore,” Ranjan said.

The projects would be on build, operate & transfer (BOT) basis where land would be leased for period of 33 years on an annual lease rent of 5 per cent of the market value along with 5 per cent annual escalation.

The project at Durgam Cheruvu would come up in 2,345 square yards and at Sagar Nagar, Visakhapatnam, it would be on two acres.

The state is also building a medical tourism society, first-of-its kind in the country, to promote medical tourism. “We want to bring members who can bring in quality. Around 12 members will be there in the society, including hotels, resorts and tour operators,” Ranjan said.
