Lack of parity between contract and regular workers may have been the reason for the recent industrial unrest in the country. However, undeterred by this, industry wants to increasingly employ contractual labourers to increase their flexibility and improve competitiveness. The views of the industry, which have been compiled in a status paper on the issue of contract labour in India, prepared by the All India Organisation of Employers and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce has also criticised the government’s proposed amendment of drawing parity in pay between the contract and regular workers.
