Rising prices of food articles pushed the wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation up to 12.14 per cent for the week ended September 6, against 3.46 per cent a year ago.

Prices of food articles rose 11.27 per cent, compared with 10.07 per cent for the week ended August 30, when inflation stood at 12.10 per cent, the third straight week when it had witnessed a fall.

However, the price index of two other categories — fuel and power, and manufactured products — declined to 16.66 per cent and 10.78 per cent, respectively.

“The inflation rate will keep fluctuating around 12 per cent. We will see the (inflation) index coming down in the next few weeks because of a sharp fall in the price of industrial fuels like ATF (aviation turbine fuel) and furnace oil,” said DK Joshi, economist, Crisil.
