Rising prices of fuel and manufactured products pushed up wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation marginally to 3.88 per cent for the week ended August 30.

Lower prices of fruits and vegetables, tea, paper, non-metallic mineral, machinery and machine tools could not pull down inflation from the figure of 3.7 per cent in the previous week, the lowest in the current financial year.

Inflation based on the WPI was 3.52 per cent in the corresponding week last year. The final WPI for the week ended July 5 remained unaltered at its provisional value of 173.7 points, while the final inflation rate was 5.15 per cent.

At the disaggregated level, prices of fuel rose 0.8 per cent while those of primary articles dipped 0.5 per cent. Manufactured products were 0.3 per cent cheaper.
