Inflation drops to 3.08%

Inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) dropped to 3.08% for the week ended August 20, 2005 as against 3.13% in the previous week due to fall in some food and chemical product prices.

The inflation was at 8.46% a year ago, according to data released by the government today.

The WPI was up 0.1% to 194.3 points as all the major indices -  primary articles, fuel and manufactured products group - moved up. The WPI was at 188.5 points a year ago, the release said.

The government revised upward the inflation to 4.30% for the week ended June 25 from the provisional level of 4.14%, and the WPI stood corrected at 194.2 points as against the earlier estimate of 193.9 points.
