Inflation drops to 4.05%

A decline in prices of fruits and vegetables, chicken, fresh fish and some manufactured products saw inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) decline to 4.05% for the week ended August 4 from 4.45% in the previous week.

The WPI-based inflation stood at 5.08% in the corresponding week last year.

Inflation for the week ended June 9 remained unchanged at 4.28%.

During the week ended August 4, prices of fruits, vegetables and poultry chicken declined by 5% each, while those of moong and fish-marine fell by 1%. However, prices of aviation turbine fuel inched up by 4% while tea, arhar and milk prices also moved up.

In manufactured products, the prices of imported edible oil, methanol, basic pig iron, foundry pig iron and bakery products declined.
