Inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) inched up to 3.97% for the week ended September 24 from 3.75% a week ago, mainly due to increase in the prices of industrial fuel and manufactured products. The point-to-point WPI stood unchanged at the previous week's level of 196.5 points although the fuel and manufactured products group indices were up 0.2%. The WPI was at 189 points in the year-ago period. The government revised upward the inflation figure to 4.16% for the week ended July 30 from the provisional level of 3.84% while the WPI stood corrected at 195.1 points as against the earlier estimate of 194.5 points. |
