Inflation moves up to 5.3%

Inflation based on the wholesale price index (WPI) moved up to 5.3% for the week ended November 4 from the previous week level of 5.09%.

This was mainly due to increase in the prices of food and manufactured items. Inflation stood at 4.04% during the corresponding week last year.

The government revised the final inflation figure to 5.22% for the week ended September 9 from provisional 4.61%, while the WPI stood corrected at 207.8 points from earlier estimate of 206.6 points.

During the week ended November 4, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for all commodities rose 0.2% to 208.8 points even as fuel prices remained firm and the WPI index was at 198.3 points a year ago.

Primary Articles group index was up 0.4% to 214.2 points as prices rose for food and manufactured items and the index was 200.6 points in the year ago period.
