Infy, Vedanta join SEZ bandwagon

Infosys Technologies, Vedanta Alumina, Emaar MGF, and Parsvnath Developers are among a host of companies that have joined the race for setting up special economic zones.
 
The inter-ministerial Board of Approval will consider their cases among 52 proposals at its next meeting on June 12.
 
Parsvnath Developers Ltd has proposed five zones at Pune, Indore, Agra, Sonepat and Kancheepuram.
 
The company plans an automotive zone in Pune spread over 100 hectares and two IT zones "" one at Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu and another at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. It is also proposing a leather zone at Agra in Uttar Pradesh and a food processing zone at Sonepat in Haryana.
 
Infosys has proposed an IT-specific zone spread over 31 hectares at Hebbal Industrial Area in Mysore. Another prominent proposal is that made by Vedanta Alumina Ltd for setting up an SEZ for manufacture and export of aluminium, along with a 1215-Mw captive power plant, spread over 347.18 hectares.
 
In addition to Parsvnath, another real estate developer, Emaar MGF Land Pvt Ltd, has proposed to set up six zones.
 
These include a 1000-hectare multi-product SEZ at Jandpur near Chandigarh, a 4000-hectare multi-product zone at Boda Kalan in Gurgaon and a 2000-hectare zone at Jahajpur in Gurgaon. It has also proposed three IT zones in Gurgaon, Lakhnaula in Haryana and another at Shikohpur in Gurgaon.
 
Bombay SEZ Builders (P) Ltd has proposed a multi-product SEZ spread over 3590 hectares in Taluka-Uran, in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
 
Silver Oak Technologies' proposal for a pharma SEZ spread over 100 hectares in Komaragiri village of Andhra Pradesh is also one of the proposals to be taken up at the meeting.
