Several international financial institutions, including World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UK-based Department of International Development (DFID) and Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC), have expressed interest in investing in sectors like power, construction, health and tourism in Bihar. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said today that all the banks would be investing in the state to develop these sectors. The government had met representatives of all banks on January 13. According to Kumar, each of the 8,712 gram panchayats in the state required Rs 35-40 lakh for the construction of a state secretariat-like building. A total amount of Rs 3,000 crore is the estimated expenditure for the construction of these buildings, which would be tremor-proof and would have enough space to shelter those affected by floods. |
