Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (KMIO) in Bangalore will host a conference to help evolve uniform standards for cancer treatment. |
"The conference will help doctors evolve guidelines for cancer treatments in India," said Dr P P Bapsy, professor and head, department of medical oncology, KMIO. With a national policy lacking in India on treating cancer, the concluding part of the conference may see a draft policy paper, said Dr Bapsy. |
About 1,000 oncologists from India and abroad are expected to attend the conference "" 'Cancer Cure For All' "" scheduled to be held in Bangalore from October 8 to October 10. The conference is held once in two years. |
With the multi-disciplinary the norm today, it has become all the more necessary to evolve standards, said Dr P S Prabhakaran, director, KMIO. The multi-disciplinary approach involves the diagnostician, surgical oncologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and microbiologist. |
The meet could generate some heat as clinical trials is a subject of discussion. The number of clinical trials are on the increase in India and standards for trials have only recently been laid down. |
