The Rajasthan government's plan to set up a Rs 1,000-crore film city project has caught the eyes of investors. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is the nodal agency for the project, which is to come up in Sumel on the Jaipur-Agra highway, around 15 km from Jaipur.

The state government is planning to invite global bids for the project, which has so far attracted people from Bollywood as well as from overseas. Actor Ajay Devgun has showed interest in the project and met senior JDA officials, including JDA Commissioner Jagdish Chandra, in this connection.

A Singapore-based NRI firm Scenario Media Limited has also showed interest in the film city project. It has proposed to develop the film city on the lines of the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad and has come up with a comprehensive idea on the model, scale and design of the film city, a senior JDA official said.

Informing that the film city is scheduled to come up on 800 acres of land, he said, "For the project to become self sustaining, about 50 per cent of the land is proposed to be reserved for township and commercial arcades. The project will create 5,000 new job opportunities in the state."

The JDA official said the project, once completed, would have all the facilities required for a film city such as permanent sets, outdoor shooting facilities, studios and boarding facilities.

He said there is an immense potential for development of a film industry in the state. The state has the Aravalli hills, havelies, all kinds of forts, palaces and lakes, he added.

He regretted that despite all this, there was no centre for providing all facilities for production of films in the state.

The upcoming film city would fill up the gap that existed in utilising the resources of the state for film productions, he added.
