Taking a cue from industries and realising the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), educational and technical institutes and even universities in Punjab are getting their innovations patented.
Already, 26 applications have been filed through the Patent Information Centre of the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology(PSCST), Chandigarh. Of the applications, patent has been granted to eight applications and the remaining ones are in the process.
Among the prominent innovations that has been granted patent are Determination of Copper in Copper Plating Industrial Effluents by Neelam Verma & Minni, Punjabi University, Patiala, Earthquake alarm by Kuldeep Singh, Government Polytechnic, Bathinda, etc.
Also, three patents has been granted to Gurmeet Singh, Government High School, Mehtan (Phagwara). These are manipulative devices for visual understanding of geometrical theorems relating to triangles, visual understanding of geometrical theorems and devices for visual understanding of geometrical theorems.
Speaking to Business Standard, PSCST, Executive Director, Neelima Jerath said, “We are working close with the educational institutes and provide patent service to them. It is good that researchers, innovators in these institutes are coming forward to get their innovations patented. Their innovation is not only recognised by the masses but it also creates awareness.”
