Announcing the decision at a public rally at Doabgah today, Social Welfare Minister Abdul Gani Vakil said the village deserved the status for not being only remote but also lagging behind in education, infrastructure, landholdings and other development parameters.
He said grant of backward status to the village would brighten employment prospects for the youth of Doabgah and pave way for speedier and integrated development of the village.
Vakil, who is also vice-president of JKPCC said Congress works for unity and integrity of the state in pursuit of which it has put in place institutional mechanism including establishment of finance commission to ensure equitable allocation of resources for planned and balanced development of all the regions of the state.
