Jaitley defends ordinances; unveils e-biz portal

BS Reporter New Delhi
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley defended the eight ordinances promulgated by the government as a sign of administrative energy and initiative.

"It's an irony that after having seen lethargic governments, we have been criticised for working fast. When there is an opportunity to demonstrate to the world that decisions have to be taken in the larger interest of the nation, we have to be decisive," Jaitley said, at the launch of 11 central government services on the eBiz single-window platform. "In a country where you are not certain whether you will get land to set up a business, you are not certain as to the stability and predictability of taxation, we scored too many self-goals in the past."

The new services on eBiz include director identification number, certificate of incorporation, commencement of business, issue of permanent account number, issue of tax deduction account number, advanced foreign remittance and name availability, foreign collaboration through the general permission route, employer registration, issue of explosives licence and importer/exporter code licence.

"Ease of doing business is getting established and transparency in business is coming about through this portal," said commerce and industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
