Jalandhar gets foreign fruit store

Fruits "n" Veggies has opened an outlet at Madan Flour Mills in Jalandhar, to cater for NRIs mainly. Imported and organic fruits and vegetables are now available, at about the half the prices that NRIs pay abroad.

Proprietor Karan Kakar said the shop was equipped with modern storage and handling systems.

The shop will sell vegetables like red and yellow capsicum, lettuce ice-berg, cherry tomato, and broccoli, and organic foods like pulses and rice, besides a variety of fruits and other vegetables.Imported fruits like Kiwi, Fuji apples, plumps, pears and grapes were available, he said.

The mart will try to directly contact farmers for procuring the fruits and vegetables. The electronic billing system and electronic weighing system had been put in place at the mart.
