Jamshedpur units finalise investment plans

 Tata Steel would invest Rs 2000 crore to increase production of saleable steel by one million tonnes by the end of 2005. Tata Tubes, a subsidiary of Tata Steel, has also taken up an expansion programme.

 Tata Power has started work on its fourth 120mw unit at Jojobera at a cost of Rs 430 crore. It has also commenced work on laying a 32-km long 220 kva feeder line from Jojobera power plant to the Ramchandrapur grid sub-station to export electricity to the rest of the country.

 Tinplate Company of India (TCIL) will invest Rs 50 crore to expand production capacity to 145,000 tonnes per annum by March 2005.

 In nearby Jhinkpani, Associated Cement Company (ACC) will invest Rs 270 crore along with a matching grant from the Jharkhand government to revive the ailing plant.

 In Jamshedpur, Tata Ryerson has announced a Rs 100 crore expansion project.

 Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) has commenced work on a second uranium processing plant at Turamdih at a cost of Rs 343 crore and will open up two open cast uranium mines at Banduhurang and Turamdih at a cost of Rs 94 crore and Rs 79 crore respectively. The projects will be completed by 2007.

 The Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (AIADA) will be setting up a City Centre at Adityapur at a cost of Rs 100 crore.

 Tata Steel and Adar Investments of Kolkata have approached BIFR to revive the closed Indian Wire and Steel Products (IS&WP) and the Indian Cable Company (INCAB Industries) here. Both bidders have received the green signal from BIFR.

 According to CII Jharkhand Council chairman and TCIL managing director B L Raina, the investments would entail construction work andf this was likely to boost the local economy.
