Local jari manufacturers have deferred their plan to keep their units closed for three days a week.

For the past few months, the jari industry is passing through a tough phase due to the rising prices of raw materials. Over-production and falling demands have added to the woes of the manufacturers.

In view of this, the manufacturers in the city had decided to keep their units closed on all Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the situation improved.

However, at a meeting on Thursday, some manufacturers said it would be better if the decision to keep the units closed on three days was deferred.

The proposal was accepted by all jari manufacturers.

Leading local jari manufacturer Raman Jariwala said, "The only reason behind deferring the earlier decision is the election. The decision to remain closed for three days was to cut production. We will meet again after the elections and take an appropriate decision."

Jariwala said, "All jari manufacturers have already cut production as units are working for only eight hours a day. This decision has not been imposed on anyone. The manufacturers are doing this for the industry. The closure decision was deferred in view of the polls."
