AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa today dubbed Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s asking the Centre to snap diplomatic ties with Sri Lanka, if it failed to honour India's latest appeal for ceasefire in the Island nation, as a “drama” and an “empty threat”.

“Yesterday’s telegram by Karunanidhi to the prime minister is yet another drama and an empty threat to the Centre to mislead people,” she said, addressing an election meet here.

“We have been accusing the UPA government and the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu of not taking any effective steps to bring about a ceasefire in Sri Lanka and end the plight of Tamils caught in the crossfire,” she added.

Karunanidhi had sent a telegram to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, asking the UPA government to snap “all diplomatic relations” with the island nation if it failed to honour India’s appeal for a ceasefire in the embattled north.
