The JD(S) today expressed fears over the state government’s decision to authorise non-banking institutions to sell stamp papers, saying it would lead to another scam and demanded that it be rolled back.
Party state spokesperson and member of Karnataka Legislative Council Y S V Dutta told a press conference here that the government had earlier appointed the Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL) as the nodal agency to print and sell stamp papers in the state.
In the memorandum of understanding signed with SHCIL, it was also agreed that the agency can involve any other institution which can carry out banking operations in its distribution network, he said. He charged the government with violating its own conditions by authorising non-banking institutions to sell stamp papers and demanded that they rescind the decision.
