In a significant move, Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday ordered the CBI to investigate the nexus between officials of public sector undertakings (PSUs) and those who were in illegal possession of the PSUs quarters.

A bench of Chief Justice Bhagwati Prasad and Justice Prakash Tatia directed the court’s registrar-general to write to the CBI to start a probe and subsequently lodge FIRs against the persons occupying the residential quarters of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and Heavy Engineering Corporatin (HEC) without proper authorization.

While hearing a PIL on encroachments in BSL, the bench directed the CBI to find out the role of government and PSU officers while assessing the genuineness of allotments of quarters. The court observed that the officers had apparently taken money and doled out residential quarters to influential people.

The bench also made a note of caution to the investigating agency stating that action should be taken only against those who were in unauthorized possession of quarters and the rightful residents should not be disturbed.
